LOVE EARTH LOVE CHILDREN
Symbol Charactor: Pemusee
The concepts behind Pemusee, our symbol character.
The mission of Love Earth Love Children is to save the Earth,
humanity, and all living things. Our symbol character must therefore
be a hero capable of rescuing and protecting the planet.
When I began work on this character, it immediately flew to New York
because there was no one more suited to the job than Milton
Glaser, the renowned illustrator who saved the city with the “I Love
New York” campaign. Mr. Glaser was impressed by the Love
Earth Love Children concept and spoke enthusiastically about its am-
bition to be a project that truly saves the Earth. With me serving
as art director, he drew a character that embodies that concept, a world
hero, a guardian angel, Pemusee. I was on my way to the airport
on September 11, 2001, intending to fly to New York to complete the
preparations for the global announcement of Love Earth Love
Children scheduled to take place during the UN General Assembly
meeting on the 13th. Obviously, the trip, and indeed, the Gen-
eral Assembly meetings, were cancelled after the terrorist attacks of
that day. Our world hero and guardian angel became a symbol
of mourning for 9.11 and hope for the future.
